The Lakebed Alteration Decision Support Tool (LADST)

The Lakebed Alteration Decision Support Tool (LADST) is a research project to develop software and data to assist resource managers in making siting decisions for lakebed-altering projects in the Great Lakes. One major application of this system is the siting of offshore wind power generation projects, but its open-ended design also allows it to be used for the siting of other types of projects.

The entire backend analysis functions were initially developed through Python and then adopted to C++ for performance. The front end is ESRI Flex API. The developer of this tool is considering to migrate the whole site to open source solution in the near future.

Great Lakes Wind Atlas

This map viewer was developed in 2009 to facilitate GIS data discovery for wind stakeholders. It covers both on land and offshore areas with various thematic layers, such as wind resource, transmission lines and biological features.
